Derek Evans is a member of the Canadian Academy of Independent Scholars, and was McGeachy Senior Scholar in 2005-2006. He is an Associate of the Wosk Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University. He regularly offers courses, training workshops, key-note addresses and feature lectures, or facilitates events on conflict and reconciliation, negotiation and strategic development, human rights and international relations, and spirituality and ethics.   • Summit of Global Faith Leaders: co-facilitation of inter-faith leaders meeting to agree a common position and program of support in relation to the UN Millennium Development Goal to prevent HIV-AIDS (The Hague, 2010).
     

  • Human Rights & State Fragility: Conceptual Foundations and Strategic Directions for State-Building (Copenhagen, 2008). Keynote presentations at a symposium hosted by the Danish Foreign Ministry and the Danish Institute for Human Rights.

  • Advocacy Summit on Children & AIDS: Facilitation of a three-day international conference in Brussels convened by UNICEF and Global Action for Children. Bringing together policy makers, experts and leading advocates on the issue from around the world, along with some of the key people dealing directly with the pandemic on the front-lines in Africa and Asia, the session successfully agreed priorities and produced a detailed strategic plan of joint action for 2007-2008.

A three-day workshop designed to enable the 30 participants to develop a shared conceptual framework of conflict and reconciliation, to analyze trends, patterns or characteristics about conflict their own situations, to identify their own role, strengths and weaknesses in relation to conflict, and to develop skills and values to guide their engagement with conflict and reconciliation in their work-place or community.
